Looking
back over 2005:
EMOTIONAL THERAPY COURSES
The Course
This year we had two large groups of students
participating in Foundation Courses. Whilst there are always some students who
do this course for their own personal development and understanding, the
majority of these students have chosen to move on into the Intermediate Stage
and to work towards the assessment for practising as therapists.
We have completed the updating of the Foundation
Course, which has been piloted and very well received by the students. The Intermediate Course is in the process
of further development, both to meet the
requirements of the UKCP guidelines towards
which we are working and to give a greater focus on skills practise. The
aim of this is to give the trainees more skills and experience to work with
clients, under supervision and before the full Certification Stage.
Students
Undertaking Assessment and Certification Stages
In November the College held Assessments for 6
students going forward for Practising membership and for 5 students moving
forward to full Certification, all of whom were successful. We congratulate
them and wish them well in their future work with Emotional Therapy.
Continuing
Professional Development (CPD)
CPD enables practitioners to maintain and update
their knowledge, skills and professional status. The Foundation trainers are
now offering specific CPD workshops
and some of these can be located via our Winter
leaflets. Fully qualified therapists are also welcome to attend any of the
Intermediate Workshops and skills practise days (many of which are new) and
should contact Jane for details of the
latter. Therapists with all sorts of disciplines and skills find these
workshops invaluable for their required CPD in their own organisations e.g.
Primary Care and other kinds of
professional bodies.
Supervision
News
Mo Purser, a member of our College was awarded her
Diploma in Supervision in January 2005. Many congratulations to her. We know
just how hard she worked for this. She has set up her first group supervision
for the membership of the Foundation for Emotional Therapy and she will
continue to disseminate her experience with other members through this medium.
Her experience will also be used to further develop the Foundation’s
Supervision format and the training of future supervisors. Supervision is
mandatory for all practising and Certificated members and it is an essential
element of practising this therapy.
New
Trainers
Two other members of our College have completed
their training for becoming a trainer for the Foundation for Emotional Therapy
and are ready to set up the training programme in new areas of the country. We
particularly look forward to this taking place in the London and Northern
regions of the country. Congratulations
to Sara Kernohan and Pam Quirke.
Attending
Emotional Therapy Courses
The Foundation Course consists of 10 days, taking
place over five weekends. Anyone who is interested in their own Inner Child

open to anyone interested in the areas covered by them. If you decide to
experience any of these courses/workshops, you will be made very welcome. Below

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
This course continues to attract a good number of
students. We have to date, run two courses each year, with our sixth course due to start in
January. We are delighted with the high level of commitment shown by the
students and with the results achieved by them. Our approach is an holistic one
and we believe that this approach meets the needs of people at all levels of their being –
physical and subtle. Here is what one of the students on the recently held
course had to say:
“ I’ve always been intrigued by
the world of Complementary
therapy and massage especially. The IHM course seemed ideal
for me in order to develop my interest. The course itself is truly
inspirational and fulfilling and the tutors bring their special
qualities to the course to make you feel confident in your learning”.
Emma-Louise
This course prepares
students to take Indian Head Massage into workplaces, where the massage
can be adapted to the time available to the recipient; it can be carried out over a cotton T-shirt, making it
easy and simple for the receiver to return to work without the more lengthy
process of attending a therapy centre.
It is available with the use of oils and offers the flexibility of a longer
massage, easily adaptable to specific problems or needs. The holistic nature of
our massage can allow for deep relaxation and energising. It is good for a
one-off experience as well as for a
series of treatments, fitting in very
well with the frequently busy lifestyles of
many people today; and we give our clients a few simple relaxation
techniques to help themselves in stressful workplace situations. A more full treatment can also be given, where
clients can receive the massage in a therapeutic setting. For example, Natasha
has a busy private at home and at the Cheltenham Holistic Health Centre.

The next course dates are as follows:
Sat./Sun. 28th/29th Jan, Sun.
5th Feb, Sun. 26th March, Fri. 7th Apr
(exams).
NFSH - SPIRITUAL HEALING COURSES
Natasha and Jane have now taken four groups of
students through the new NFSH course and are pleased to say that this new
format is in good shape (see newsletter 2).
The students are taking to portfolio work very well,
even though many have not met this approach before. We continue to be pleased
and delighted with the enthusiasm of
participants for the holistic nature of
spiritual healing. We have our quiet, meditative space and plenty of time for the development of healing potential. We also have fun and lots
of laughter. Students are encouraged to
join a local healing group if they can. Here they find further support and can
work towards becoming full healers. In due time we both have the privilege of
seeing some of these students when they come to a full healer membership panel.
They have their story to tell at the panel, they show how familiar they are
with the NFSH Code of Practise and they demonstrate how healing can be given; (please refer to newsletter issue 2 for
further details of Regional support).
“Spiritual healing is the channelling of healing
energies through the healer to the patient. It re-energises and relaxes the
patients to enable their own natural resources
to deal with illness or injury in the best possible way”; (extract from
the NFSH information sheet). If you have
an interest in learning more about NFSH healing. please contact one of us for
further information.

We recently received this comment from a student who
has attended many of our course, and more recently, the spiritual healing
course:
“Natasha and Jane’s course are professionally excellent, meticulously
prepared as well as good fun and with interesting people. They would
always be our first preference for further education and/or refreshment.
We come away motivated and looking forward to the next one”.
AROMATHERAPY DIPLOMA COURSE
This time last year, fifteen students were receiving the good news of their results. The tutors were delighted with these results, they were excellent. Well as we write, we are delighted to report on the similarly excellent results of a further eight students. The commitment and enthusiasm of all of our students is amazing. Many of them have demanding full time jobs or have actually let go of financially rewarding jobs to commit to this course. We are proud of our students and the story we regularly hear is that of a search for something more meaningful, fulfilling and giving to life as opposed to the corporate life many of them have experienced. It is the story of journeying and the journeyers know that it is not a soft option. Several of our recent students have gone on to further studies in related therapies and some hope to open their own natural therapy centres and to gain qualifications to teach Aromatherapy. Whilst standards are high amongst these students, so is the level of mutual support and friendship. The student’s willingness to see the wider picture of Aromatherapy in all it’s aspects enables them to bring that certain quality of massage which meet’s client’s needs at every level. The quality just gets better and better.
In January 2006 ten more students enrolled on the Diploma Course and are about to focus on Sandra’s Anatomy and Physiology course. The outstanding results achieved by students in A&P is in no small measure due to Sandra’s teaching which is well organised, skilfully taught and fun – yes! A&P, (I should know, I did this course, Natasha)
Course brochures are available for all of the above courses from Jane or Natasha and there are additional courses and workshops which are offered just because they can contribute to the different personal development requirements or interests of everyone.
