ANGER & FORGIVENESS

Most of us at sometime in our lives are told to control our anger. Being angry often or for too long can drain our energy, create relationship problems, ruin our social life, work, friendships and affect our health in varying degrees. What causes anger? Anger is a result of internal or external factors. It is an emotional defence mechanism. The first half of this workshop will give us an opportunity to explore our own anger and that of others, and to look for ways of channelling anger safely and constructively.

To forgive is to remit, let off, pardon. Some of us `try’ to forgive because of our social and/or religious beliefs or because we believe that it is a prerequisite to being `truly recovered or healed’. Forgiveness can create  varying degrees of intensity with our emotions. Some things seem easy to forgive and we find some things impossible to forgive. Whatever the degree the same process needs to be undergone to reach the state of forgiveness. The purpose of this workshop is to help us understand the process of forgiveness and the difficulties involved.

UNDERSTANDING SUICIDAL FEELINGS

The majority of people feeling suicidal are not mentally ill. They are usually ordinary people undergoing personal crises which have become too much to bear. There are many degrees of intent ranging from a cry for help to desire for death, but whatever the degree the person is far too fragile to tackle the problems which may be involved. This one day workshop is designed to help us understand why people feel suicidal, what happens, how to spot the signs, assess the risk, and decide what we might be able to do to help.

LOSS AND BEREAVEMENT

Loss and bereavement will almost certainly come to each of us at some time in our life, but until we personally experience the grief caused we cannot realise the degree of suffering which has to be worked through. One’s behaviour in the early days is often unpredictable and contrary. This workshop will help us understand loss, the importance of the grieving process and how to respond appropriately when helping others.

ASPECTS OF CHILD ABUSE

Child abuse is a very emotive topic about which people have a wide range of attitudes and feelings. People get upset and angry when child abuse is referred to and find it difficult to work in this area because they are overwhelmed by these feelings. This workshop will deal with many issues of child sex abuse and will be of great interest to anyone who is likely to deal in this subject.

ADDICTIONS AND EATING DISORDERS

An addiction is when individuals cannot function in life without using the `drug’ of their choice to enable them to cope with what is going on; or when lack of use causes physical, psychological or emotional withdrawal symptoms. The `drug’ is often thought of  as alcohol or drugs, but in fact almost anything can become addictive; work, sex, exercise, house cleaning, spending etc. As long as `using’ is going on in order to alter an individuals reality, then addiction is present. This workshop is aimed at an introduction to, and basic background of the subject to stimulate discussion and to enhance further awareness and understanding of addictions.

JOURNAL WORK

The art of finding yourself. Creative Journal-Keeping is a wonderful tool for personal growth. It can help us to express feelings and thoughts, use colour, images, symbols, help us to `sort out’ the confused experiences of life, define and implement changes, discover our potential, `unblock’ negative patterns, enrich relationships and find deeper meanings in our lives. Join us on this one day workshop and discover some ways of Creative Journal-Keeping. It is designed to help with our own personal growth and development whilst adding the dimension of giving any therapists attending some new tools and ideas to `help them help their clients help themselves’.

INTRODUCTION TO THE FIVE ELEMENTS

The five element theory underpins the whole of Chinese medicine. They are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood, and they are the energetic substances or processes out of which the world is made. All of us are born with one element which is constitutionally  more imbalanced than the others. This imbalance causes us to have repetitive negative states or difficulties expressing certain emotions. Knowing and understanding our imbalance `type’ can bring us into greater awareness and highlight key areas to work on in our own personal growth and development. This one day workshop will help us to discover our own imbalance type giving us deeper understanding of ourselves. It  will also give us an understanding and good awareness of the five elements. No prior knowledge is necessary. The day will be informative, enlightening and fun giving us another perspective of our personal journey.

Course participants will also have an opportunity to practice and experience this self-healing technique. DREAM WORK

One of the most famous people of modern times to point out the importance of dreams in giving us direction in life was Carl Jung. Doing dream work is like stepping out on a journey of discovery. Dreams tell us so much about ourselves. This workshop is for anyone who has consciously stepped onto the pathway of personal development, healing, wholeness and finding his/her true purpose in life. The workshop will also give any therapists a basic understanding of the therapeutic value of dream work which will enable them to facilitate the clients development should it feel appropriate to work in this area.

INNER CHILD

The inner child is possibly the most powerful presence within our psyche who very often, albeit unconsciously in those unaware, takes centre stage in our emotional world. Often our wondrous qualities are driven out by the demands of those around us; the child’s connection to their own innate knowing is destroyed and the sense of self is lost. In order to survive, the child’s free spirit is buried and behaviour strategies are created to protect and allow it to be acceptable witin it’s world. However, the free spirit never dies, indeed it can be seen to be the most truly alive quality of Being within us. This one day workshop is designed to help us connect with our inner child in order that we can become whole, enabling us to experience true intamacy with our-self and others.

THE WHOLE SELF

Self-acceptance. Without this ingredient of acknowledging and owning all that we are we cannot become, or live, wholly wither with ourselves, others or in the world. Self-acceptance is part of our wholeness. Until we own and accept our own frailties how can we choose to transform them? Being our whole self allows us to come into the fullness of our own personal power and to operate in our lives from a strong foundation with self-worth and self-esteem. This one day workshop has bee set up to encourage us to question what are the ingredients of wholeness and to explore this concept at a personal level.

THE ALCHEMY OF LOVE

True happiness is only possible with true love. True love has the power to heal and transform any situation around us and bring a deep meaning to our lives. If we learn ways to practice love, compassion, joy and equanimity we will know how to heal the illness of anger, sorrow, insecurity, sadness, loneliness and unhealthy attachments. If we can truly feel love we can truly arrive as an enlightened person. This workshop is designed to explore and feel the possibilities that are within ourselves and within everyone and everything.

“May everyone be happy and safe, and may their hearts be filled with joy.”
